Common Questions

Common Questions

How long until I know whether things will recover on their own?

Bladder control often improves over the first year after surgery. Erection nerves can take 1 to 2 years. You don't have to wait idly. Rehabilitation and treatment can start early.

Can I still be treated after radiation?

Yes. Radiated tissue heals more slowly, so planning matters, but slings, sphincters, implants, and stricture repair all remain options.

Will treatment interfere with my cancer follow-up?

No. Implants and sphincters don't affect PSA monitoring.

Can leakage and erection problems be fixed at the same time?

Often, yes. A penile implant and an artificial urinary sphincter can be placed during the same operation.

I leak urine during orgasm. Is that common?

Yes, it's common after prostatectomy and it's treatable. Mention it at your visit.
