Vasectomy: Recovery and Semen Test

Vasectomy: Recovery and Semen Test

Recovery

  • Ice and snug underwear for the first 48 hours.
  • Take it easy for 1 to 2 days. No heavy lifting or hard exercise for about a week.
  • Mild swelling and an ache are normal.
  • Sex is fine after about a week if you're comfortable.

You aren't sterile yet

  • Sperm remain in the system for a while. Keep using other birth control.
  • A semen test, usually 8 to 16 weeks after the procedure, confirms whether it worked. Don't stop other birth control until I confirm your result.
